Few contemporary authors have left as distinctive a mark on modern literature as Dave Eggers. A writer, publisher, and philanthropist, Eggers first gained international recognition with his memoir A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius (2000), a raw and unconventional take on personal loss and coming-of-age. He went on to author critically acclaimed novels such as What Is the What, The Circle, and The Every, while also founding McSweeney’s, an independent publishing house known for its innovative literary works. His writing consistently blends humor, sharp social commentary, and a deep concern for humanitarian issues.

Sacrament, Dave Eggers’ expanded edition of You Shall Know Our Velocity, was published in 2003 by McSweeney’s as “Hand’s Revised Edition.” This limited edition consisted of 2,000 copies, each signed by Eggers on the front cover. The book features a unique design, with the text beginning on the front cover and continuing onto the endpapers, and includes an additional 49-page section narrated by the character Hand, offering an alternative perspective on the original narrative.
