For sale: Philip K. Dick. Now Wait for Last Year. NYC: Macfadden, 1968

$20.00

VG wraps, as published. First paperback edition of this title!

A tight, unread copy with some rubbing along the spine and a light crease in the front corner. A nice copy and not nearly as pricey as the Doubleday clothbound first published two years earlier.

Description

Now Wait for Last Year is — you guessed it — a thought-provoking science fiction novel exploring themes of addiction, love, and political intrigue. Set in a dystopian future, Earth is embroiled in an interstellar war between two alien races. But did I really need to tell you that?

Dr. Eric Sweetscent, a surgeon for a powerful political leader, becomes entangled in a complex web of loyalty and deception. His wife introduces him to JJ-180, a dangerous drug with time-altering effects, further complicating his grasp on reality. The novel delves into the fragility of human relationships and the ethical dilemmas of survival, showcasing Dick’s signature exploration of identity and existential uncertainty.

On a totally rando note, here’s a story: one of my biggest regrets as a collector was passing on a note that PKD had taped to his door in the late 70’s that read something like, “Philip K. Dick DOES NOT LIVE HERE.” I’m sure it came from that Tim Powers lot of PKD stuff, but I forget the circumstances behind the note. Maybe it had something to do with an ex. Or a bill collector? Maybe his drug dealer. Something along those lines.
