Description

Ed Sanders (b. 1939) is an American poet, musician, and countercultural figure renowned for his contributions to the 1960s underground scene. A co-founder of the satirical rock band The Fugs, Sanders blended humor, activism, and poetry in his music.

He also ran Peace Eye Bookstore in New York City, a hub for avant-garde writers. As a poet, his works include Poems for New Orleans and Tales of Beatnik Glory. Sanders authored The Family (1971), a detailed account of Charles Manson and his cult. A pioneer of investigative poetry, Sanders remains an influential voice in American letters and counterculture history.

This issue of The East Village Other (Vol. 3, No. 18) also delves into:

  • “Radicals In the Profession: The Young Doctors Revolt”:  by Claudia Dreifus concerns “radical young doctors” taking on the establishment.
  • “A Conversation with Ed Sanders”. Interview conducted by Jaakkov Kohn.
