Description
H. Rap Brown, born Hubert Gerold Brown on October 4, 1943, is a prominent figure in the civil rights and Black Power movements of the 1960s. He served as chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and later joined the Black Panther Party as their Minister of Justice.
Known for his fiery rhetoric advocating Black self-determination, Brown authored the autobiography Die Nigger Die! in 1969, which critiques systemic racism and inequality. After the 1970s, he converted to Islam, adopting the name Jamil Abdullah Al-Amin. In 2000, he was convicted of murdering a Georgia sheriff’s deputy, a case shrouded in controversy.
