Description

Bold was a periodical published in the mid-1950s by Pocket Magazines, Inc. It was a men’s magazine that combined elements of pulp fiction, provocative photography, and cultural commentary.

It catered to the postwar fascination with risqué content, celebrity culture, and “lifestyle” pieces aimed at men.

The publication of Bold coincided with the emergence of more daring content in magazines, paving the way for future publications like Playboy, which debuted in 1953. Though not as famous or enduring as Playboy, Bold reflected the changing attitudes and interests of its time. In addition to Bettie’s cover, this issue featured profiles and photographs of prominent figures such as Marilyn Monroe and Dorothy Dandridge;  stories on topics like Harry Houdini and the evolution of jazz music;  and finally discussions on subjects like beer and ale, athleticism, and justice for athlete Jim Thorpe.

One of the more desirable issues, even more so in this condition.
