Description
George Petty (1894–1975) was an American pin-up artist best known for his glamorous, long-legged “Petty Girls” that graced the pages of Esquire magazine throughout the 1930s and ’40s. Trained at the Académie Julian in Paris, Petty blended classical technique with a cheeky, commercial sensibility that defined mid-century American illustration. His work heavily influenced advertising, military nose art during WWII, and countless pin-up artists who followed—including Alberto Vargas. Petty’s girls were flirty but never crass, exuding charm, elegance, and just enough mischief. His legacy remains deeply embedded in American pop culture and the golden age of glamour illustration.
Offered here is a near-complete set of 11 original calendar leaves from a 1948 Petty Girl calendar, featuring Petty’s unmistakable work. Each month showcases one of his signature illustrations—flirty, long-legged, and full of postwar charm. While November is missing, the remaining 11 leaves are in very good condition, with only light edge wear and clean, vivid artwork throughout. See description for more and check out the pics! These pieces are ready to be framed, collected, or simply admired as a near-full slice of vintage pin-up history.
Petty’s work helped define the American ideal of glamour in the 1940s, and this set captures his playful brilliance at its peak.
