First and foremost, synaesthesia press is a very small, fiercely independent publishing house specializing in chapbooks and broadsides printed in relatively small and limited editions. Since founding the press in 1994, I’ve remained committed to producing finely crafted, thoughtful works—each interesting in its own right.
synaesthesia press is funded primarily through the sale of good books—both rare and out of print—as well as through the books, broadsides, and various other endeavors I create. My inventory spans everything from beat publications, interesting ephemera and paper, vintage erotica, little magazines, modern first editions, underground newspapers and comics and found photography—pretty much anything I manage to discover that exists at the intersection of literary and visual culture.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with an incredible roster of writers and artists: Tosh Berman, Barry Gifford, Tim O’Brien, Fritz Scholder, Charlie Plymell, Harold Norse, Jack Micheline, Johnny Brewton, Steve Fisher, Roxie Powell, and Neeli Cherkovski, among others. Their work, like the press itself, reflects a commitment to the substantial, the unconventional, the overlooked, and the fiercely independent.
Beyond publishing, my work extends into collage, book arts and photography; my camera focused on musicians, sex workers, street photography and any other subcultural and / or interesting subjects I manage to meet. With over 50,000 original images, I am now bringing my work to life through prints, exhibitions, and limited-edition publications.
synaesthesia press is more than an online bookstore—it’s a space where literature, photography, and cultural history converge. If you’re drawn to the outsider, the rare, the obscure, or the irreverent, you’re in the right place. For inquiries, collaborations, or just to talk books, reach out.
Hi Synaesthesia Press,
I did receive the McClure/Berman book ordered from ebay. Thank you. As I suspected the delivery agents marked the book delivered when it was not but I just got it. It’s happened before. Best,
Archie Rand
