Description
Hup is a series of underground comic books created by R. Crumb and published between 1987 and 1992. This is the series’ total run; and, like much of Crumb’s work, Hup features a mix of satire, dark humor, and sexually charged themes — all illustrated in his distinctive style. Crumb used Hup as a platform for some of his most outrageous, controversial, and surreal work during this period.
Some of Crumb’s iconic characters and themes surface throughout these four issues: Mr. Natural and Flakey Foont; Crumb’s sexual fantasies and his social critiques. And beneath the explicit content lies sharp commentary on not only on society, but gender dynamics and human desire as well.
While exact print run numbers remain elusive, the multiple printings and continued interest in the Hup series underscore its significance in underground comic history.
